The Volebeats cast a magical spell with their music. Infused with a sense of loneliness, brooding contemplation and what sounds like a complete immersion in the inner self. This is not immature or petty self-pity. One gets a sense that they laugh at themselves as easily as cry. This lyric from "Back In A Minute" gives insight: "So tired I'd go to sleep; so tired I awake / To feel my existence is more than I could take / But I could take you back." The Volebeats make beautiful and moving ballads with perfectly appropriate lead guitar and rhythmic backing. They also tackle noir-ish instrumentals, stripped-down Americana and Pyschedelic Rock a la The Byrds. This is music that can keep the soul company.
