Possibly the proverbial quantum leap for Voltio, En Lo Claro takes the incipient weirdness of "Chulin Culin Chunfly" and ramps it up a thousandfold. Coconspirators Residente (of Calle 13) and Tego Calderon have clearly had an influence: The singer abandons -- or at least heavily disguises -- his reggaeton, embracing stripped-down hip-hop beats and electronica. But it's that pinched, corrugated voice that adds a texture nobody else has. His lyrics may not win points with women ("El Mellao," anyone?), but musically this is a successful surprise.
