That the dudes in Voodeux collaborate electronically over long distance might explain the simultaneously expansive and claustrophobic vibe of their debut album. These eerie tracks draw an undulating line from the voices in our head to communal madness on the dancefloor. Inspired by the dark, itchy end of the minimal-techno spectrum, Voodeux ply jittery squiggles over cleanly carved grooves, letting oozing electronic sounds fill in the empty space in surprising ways; inky bass and unsettling synthesizers hang like bloody, melodic meat over their skeletal, digital-tinged rhythms.
