Warsaw Village Band
Released:
Nov 2008
Label:
Barbès Records
It all started with the birth of a child: The band became obsessed with the infinite connections between past and future, the living transmission of culture. A hefty concept, but nobody can deal with it like the Warsaw Village Band, who combine classical gravitas with focused experimentalism. For the first time, the group composed the songs, leaving off mourning Poland's disappearing folk tradition and instead celebrating a somber but very interesting musical future. They play the hell out of their violins, sing like banshees, and provide almost unrecognizable takes on funk and African music.
