When Tipper Gore and the P.M.R.C. attempted to clean up rock music in the mid-1980s, one of the first acts they targeted was W.A.S.P. And why did Tipper take issue with Blackie and company? Look no further than the first song on their first album: "I got pictures of naked ladies / lying on their beds. / I whiff that smell and sweet convulsion." And "I moan and growl and the hunt drives me crazy. / I f*ck like a beast." Needless to say, W.A.S.P. transformed mainstream metal into an X-rated scandal. To compound their threat, they rocked hard, obviously inspired by both Venom and Judas Priest.
