Weezer (Blue Album) (Deluxe Edition)
Weezer
Released:
May 1994
Label:
Geffen
Launching the career of Spike Jonze (he directed the video for "Undone"), the trend in black horn-rimmed glasses and the half-smirking aesthetic that still informs alt rock today, Weezer deserved all the success that came their way with this debut. The singles — "Buddy Holly" and "Say It Ain't So" among them — are great, the album cuts arguably better: "Only in Dreams" is a field guide to unrequited love in the 'burbs, and "My Name Is Jonas" is one of the strongest openers ever. Weezer proved that dorks could rock as hard as tough guys, and upon hearing this LP, a nation of them proceeded to. This edition includes 14 bonus tracks.
