Why? traffics in musical scare-quotes and generally uses his intellect to sneer at the listener. Yet in his best moments, it's enchanting. On the dreamy "Good Friday," the Berkeley "emcee" "raps" about "sucking d*ck at the free bar at my cousin's bar mitzvah," trying to snort drugs in a Starbucks bathroom and growing up with white boys who "only look at black and Puerto Rico porno because they only want something their dad ain't got." Then, suddenly, the litany of hipster imagery gives way to a flash of scalding noise. It's really "great."
