by Wishbone Ash
Released: May 1972
Wishbone Ash are kind of a forgotten beast. But in the early '70s, the group's fusion of blues boogie and Beatlesque prog-rock influenced an impressive list of bands that attained much greater fame than Wishbone itself. Argus is filled with pop hooks far sharper than you'd expect from such a heavy outfit, but the album's greatest contribution to the hard-rock aesthetic is its twin lead guitars. Everybody from Thin Lizzy to Judas Priest to Queen obviously spun this record plenty of times.
