Within The Ruins

In 2002, Massachusetts metalcore quintet Within the Ruins were formed by telepathically linked guitarist Joe Cocchi and a drummer who goes by the name Drummer. After incorporating a full lineup, practicing nonstop and embarking on a three-year tour, the highly proficient unit signed to Victory and promptly began releasing records. Striking a balance between the economic song structures of hardcore punk and the jaw-dropping speeds/Rush-level chops of Mastodon, Within the Ruins come from the same blurry, brutal tradition that brought the world Shadows Fall. In 2006, they put out Driven by Fear on their own label; their Victory debut, Creature, appeared in 2009; and third album Invade surfaced in 2010.
