Of all Kompakt founder Wolfgang Voigt's many projects, his Gas alias is his most focused. Inspired by his youthful walks through the German forest, it draws upon canonical German classical music, blurring orchestral samples into swollen drones and atonal presences that flit about like ghosts. It's dark, eerie stuff, but it can also be strangely comforting; dolphin clicks and dull thumps give the music a feeling of coziness that verges on the amniotic.
