Yaga and Mackie's 2007 release comes at a time when many reggaeton producers sound like they're trying to figure out how to let the genre grow while still keeping it real. That may be why the unapologetically hardcore reggaeton numbers on La Reunion are so refreshing: there is still a place for this music in its meanest, rawest form and these guys slam that point home throughout. Still, the reggae interludes and attempts at salsa (!) provide welcome relief from the intensity.
