If the band's 1999 release Dalai Beldiri straddled some previously unknown line between indie rock and Tuvan throat singing, 2006's Re-Covers completely undoes classic rock warhorses. Band founder Albert Kuvezin's vocal treatment ranges from growling and gravelly-voiced to downright sub-sonic, while menacing instrumentation takes even Captain Beefheart into previously unknown wacked-out territory. It's thrilling. His cover of Joy Division's "Love Will Tear Us Apart" is the antithesis of Nouvelle Vague's.
