Here, the guitar quartet plays "one-page pieces" by modern composers. But these aren't all miniatures! (Writing on a single page can be done with traditional notation or else "graphic" scoring.) The results are varied: Joel Ford's "Gauss Cannon" is pure post-minimalism; Clinton McCallum's "round round down" brings in the complexity-metal grind. Alvin Curran's countrified tunes (the title track and "Waltzing With Her") are a nice surprise. Older works (see "Burdocks" and "December 1952") get new takes, but the big draws are less familiar items, like Larry Polansky's "Tween (K-Tood #2)."
