Augustus Pablo

Volume 3 of the sprawling Mystic World collection charts Augustus Pablo's production in the late '70s and early '80s, when Jamaican ears began shifting their attention from roots' syrupy grooves to a more stylized, disco-inspired aesthetic (proto-dancehall, basically). Rockers' popularity as both a producer and musician began to wane, but not his talent. Smooth, dreamy dub like "Earth's Ritual Ruler" and "Eastern Code" proved that the man's Asian-tinged vibrations could change with the times.
