Autour de Lucie

While previous Autour de Lucie albums had a warm sound, this one adds brooding electronica and retro-post-punk touches to their interwoven-guitars-and-sweeping-strings pop palette. Fans of classic Cure or early New Order will go for the luxurious suffering in a big way, although vocalist Valerie Leulliot has a defeated Parisian point of view that's all her own.

It's a good thing Autour De Lucie hired drummer Sebastien Buffet, because without his
heavy rhythmic anchor, the Paris trio's music might have floated away forever. Buffet, who
alternates between jazz business on "Lent" and a harsher industrial thud on "Je Suis Un
Balancier," catches singer Valerie Lueillot's airy French-language murmuring before it goes
