Baden Powell

Verve opened their vaults and out flew this subtle, pretty album like a flock of doves. The Brazilian guitarist brings a classical precision to this 1975 release, teasing pathos from every string while maintaining that effortless South American swing that seduces girls and wins World Cup tournaments. You can hear Powell singing along with his twinkling guitar work on the opening track (take that, George Benson!), though much of the rest of the album heads in a more thoughtful direction.
