Beaten Awake

Their name may be a tad off-putting, but their minimal brand of indie rock is anything but. The pastoral, spacey subtlety of guitarist Allen Karpinski, whose work with the Six Parts Seven blends its way into solemn songs like "Ghost Bought a Bicycle" and "Endless Boo," helps bond the tracks featuring the gravelly, Eddie Vedder-like howls of Joe Finley with those highlighting the somber quivers of Joel McAdam. Low-key and slightly lax, Let's Get Simplified feels cozy, vulnerable and organic in a way indie rock is intended to be.
