2014 Grammy Nominations

by Dan Weiss  |  January 26, 2014

The nominees for the 2014 Grammys include many artists who defined 2013, from Daft Punk to Lorde to Jay Z to Robin Thicke. And given the Grammy time frame, plenty from 2012 are represented too, like endless hitmaker Rihanna and new rap superstar Kendrick Lamar. Vampire Weekend might've been a shoo-in for this kind of industry attention by now, but trippy Tame Impala come as a genuine surprise. Jack White turned out the most famous version yet of the Little Willie John/Blasters chestnut "I'm Shakin'," while heavyweights like Justin Timberlake and Bruno Mars launched several hits into different categories. And this is where P!nk's ubiquitous fun. duet "Just Give Me a Reason" and Katy Perry's victorious "Roar" earn the most respect. Even rap had a monster ballad this season: the unforgettable "Same Love," from Macklemore & Ryan Lewis (and Mary Lambert). This will be a fun contest for sure.
