'80s Rock Icons
by Justin Farrar | October 2, 2014
Rhapsody has officially declared it Classic Rock-tober! That means it's time to crank things up to 11, as we travel back in time to salute the finest in classic rock. Stay tuned each day of October for a new reason to rock out.
It's shaping up to be a big year for the icons of '80s rock, with new albums from mighty Bruce Springsteen (High Hopes) and Pretenders legend Chrissie Hynde (the wonderfully daring Stockholm), and Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers' throwback to the Southern-fried Anglo-pop captured on their earliest titles, Hypnotic Eye. Because of all this buzz and activity, we here at Rhapsody thought it would be cool to curate a sprawling playlist revisiting a lot of the awesome rock 'n' roll made during the decade of Ronald Reagan, big hair and Top Gun. In addition to monster hits like the Boss' rousing "Born in the U.S.A." and the Pretenders' incredibly sultry "Brass in Pocket," you're treated to era-defining classics from the likes of Phil Collins, U2, Bon Jovi, Peter Gabriel, Journey and many others. Whether you grew up in the '80s or you're a millennial harboring a powerful sense of nostalgia for leg warmers and New Wave, our playlist will have you bopping about your house while singing of pink houses and houses being burned down!
