The Yellowjackets were the most influential jazz band of the 1980s and '90s, crafting a richly woven sound that influenced the creation of smooth jazz while keeping strong roots in bop, Caribbean music and more. If anything, this 2011 release shows that the band has only grown tougher over the years and is completely out of the "contemporary jazz" category all together. That said, tunes like "A Single Step," the bop tribute "Like Elvin" and the title track should appeal to fans of quality music everywhere.
