Groove Armada
Groove Armada buck expectations on their first album for the laid-back Om label, leaping in with a punk-spirited chant and buzzy synths of the Prodigy or Ed Banger variety. The bombast sounds awkward, but they're more at ease with the Depeche Mode-leaning "History" and the moody synth-pop of "Shameless" (which features Bryan Ferry). Groove Armada's house music roots are barely a memory in these rock-leaning songs, which are fronted mostly by the vocalists Nick Littlemore, Jess Larrabee and SaintSaviour, who show an affinity (if not always aptitude) for the spotlight.
