Artist Spotlight: 30 Seconds to Mars
by Justin Farrar | May 23, 2013
Very few Hollywood heavies have made the leap from actor to pop star as agilely as handsome Jared Leto. In fact, one could say he's now more the latter than the former. Despite the fact that the 2009 cult film Mr. Nobody features one of his best performances to date, the silver screen really has taken a backseat to his 30 Seconds to Mars project in recent years. Indeed, with each new release, including the 2013 concept album Love, Lust, Faith + Dreams (imagine Muse meets M83 meets The Cure), the band has only grown more ambitious and popular. A lot of its success has been buoyed by a seriously ambitious performance schedule. Between 2010 and '12 they played in excess of 300 shows, a tally that landed 30 Seconds to Mars the Guinness World Record for "Longest Concert Tour by a Rock Band."
Drawing from the band's complete discography, our playlist is the perfect way to introduce yourself to 30 Seconds to Mars' expansive, prog-laden fusion of alternative rock, electronica, grunge, emo and nü goth.
