Artist Spotlight: Jack Johnson
by Justin Farrar | September 23, 2013
Singer-songwriter, activist, surfer and one of Rhapsody's all-time most popular artists, Jack Johnson has just dropped his latest studio effort, From Here to Now to You. Reunited with Mario Caldato, Jr., who produced In Between Dreams, Johnson's most commercially successful full-length to date, he offers up another deep dish of Hawaii-seasoned folk pop perfect for laid-back afternoons at the beach (or mountains, or stream, or whatever resplendent patch of nature stokes your inner Thoreau). Though he expanded his sonic palette oh so slightly on predecessor To the Sea, this time around he sticks to what he does best: stripped down and acoustic, with the emphasis placed squarely upon his mellow strum and pleasingly hushed vocals.
With our Artist Spotlight playlist, listeners can explore the full breadth of Johnson's career and catalog. In addition to key selections off the brand-new album, it boasts an in-depth mix of older hits and crowd favorites, including "Flake," "Banana Pancakes," "Sitting, Waiting, Wishing," "If I Had Eyes" and "You and Your Heart." Our playlist also touches on Johnson's extensive cameo work with choice cuts from old pals G. Love & Special Sauce and Donavon Frankenreiter, as well as hip-hoppers Handsome Boy Modeling School.
