Awesome '80s Covers
by Jim Allen | November 22, 2013
Everybody loves an '80s cover tune. For those who were there, contemporary -- or at least post-'80s -- covers of Reagan-era relics generate a warm-and-fuzzy nostalgic glow, while those who weren't get a twice-removed taste of what it was like to hear chestnuts like The Go-Go's classic "Our Lips Are Sealed" or Michael Jackson's blockbuster "Billie Jean" when they were new. When people first started reinterpreting hits of the '80s it was admittedly a bit of a novelty, but by now the pop gems of the period have taken their place in history, and they're fair game for all comers. Whether that means Patti Smith putting Tears for Fears' "Everybody Wants to Rule the World" in a new perspective, or the duo of Matthew Sweet and Susanna Hoffs revamping The Bongos' "The Bulrushes," the '80s come alive again in this hefty heap of killer covers.
