Catching Up with Janelle Monae, 2010-2013

by Mosi Reeves  |  September 11, 2013

It's been three years since Janelle Monae's full-length debut, The ArchAndroid, was hailed as an instant classic. She didn't disappear: Her voice rang across airwaves in 2012 via fun.'s "We Are Young." For a while, it seemed as if every major TV music event, whether it was the 2011 Nobel Prize concert or sundry music awards shows, featured Monae dancing up a storm like the second coming of Prince. But that long wait deserves a proper recount of how she got to her promising new album, The Electric Lady. This playlist includes not only her hits "Tightrope" and "Cold War," but also new singles "Q.U.E.E.N." and "Dance Apocalyptic," as well as guest shots for mentor Big Boi and more.
