Celebrity Playlist: Colt Ford's 4th of July Jams
by Linda Ryan | July 3, 2014
It's finally time to break out the sparklers and fire up the grill. And this mix of Fourth of July Jams, as provided by country rapper Colt Ford, is the perfect soundtrack for your summertime party.
Born in Athens, Ga., and affectionately known as "Mr. Goodtime," Ford certainly knows a thing or two about a hit song. But trying to meld his adoration for both country and rap music was, at first, much easier said than done. "Dirt Road Anthem," for example, failed to ignite when released on Ford's 2008 debut, Ride Through the Country. But by the time Declaration of Independence was released in 2012, country music had shifted radically. Now, not only has the platinum-selling star helped Brantley Gilbert reach No. 1 with the Ford-penned "Country Must Be Country Wide," he's also seen Jason Aldean top the charts with his and Gilbert's "Dirt Road Anthem." And, most recently, Ford's new and fifth album, Thanks for Listening, has become his most successful chart debut to date. So, to celebrate, we asked Ford for a timely playlist.
"These are some of the feel-good summer songs that I'm currently jamming on," he says. "Some are from my Average Joes labelmates, and I also included favorites from my buddies Eric Church, Luke Bryan, Frankie Ballard and Florida Georgia Line." This is the perfect playlist for soaking up the sun, breaking out the charcoal, hitting the water or cracking a cold one.
