Celebrity Playlist: Run River North
by Linda Ryan | April 7, 2014
Run River North are a Los Angeles-based indie folk sextet comprising four guys and two girls. Two years ago, the group made a splash when the video of them recording "Fight to Keep" in their Hondas (yes, Hondas) went viral. So viral, in fact, that Honda helped surprise the group with an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live. Their sunshine-infused sound is heightened by the whimsical boy/girl interplay between principal singers Alex Hwang (also a guitarist) and Sally Kang (also the band's keyboardist). The group, which also includes Daniel Chae (violin/guitar), John Chong (drums), Joe Chun (bass) and Jennifer Rim (violin), just released its eponymous debut in February, and are currently on tour in support of the album. No strangers to the road, Run River North know what it takes to satisfy so many in such a small space, so here they share with us a group-made playlist.
"There are six of us in the band, and each of us has our own unique tastes," Alex explains. "Many hours are spent on the road with music on, and since it's impossible to appease everyone with just one artist, this playlist does the trick. Each song comes from an artist we love, as a collective. It's safe to say our musical style has been influenced, big or small, by each one of these artists. Check it out, as we'll most definitely be listening to these songs on the road."
