Celebrity Playlist: Trampled by Turtles
by Linda Ryan | July 17, 2014
Maybe you like Trampled by Turtles for the way they play their knee-slapping modern bluegrass at a dizzying, breakneck pace. Or perhaps it's the slower, more introspective tunes that grab your attention. Either way, these two distinctive styles have shaped the band's sound and have helped them gain a broad range of music fans that has been growing since their inception in Duluth, Minn., in 2003. In fact, this summer, Trampled by Turtles will be headlining a sold-out show at the prestigious Red Rocks Amphitheater in Colorado, and they'll be putting on their own music festival -- Festival Palomino -- in September. How's that for a dedicated following?
Hot on the heels of their sixth studio album, Wild Animals, we asked Trampled by Turtles to make a playlist for us. Singer Dave Simonett says, "Here is a collection of the songs we were listening to while we were recording Wild Animals at Pachyderm Studios. Our new record was produced by Alan Sparhawk, member of fellow Duluth group Low, so it seemed only natural we include them in this playlist; we are all huge Low fans. In one way or another, all of these songs influenced us in the making of Wild Animals." So hit play and hang on -- it's a fun and wild ride!
