On his sixth album, Wilson returns to the brightly optimistic grown-folks soul that marks his solo career. He has a folksy, offhand way of interpreting these songs, and when he sings "One thing's for sure, my arms are meant to hold/ And these lips are made for you/ So baby, kiss me" on "I Still Have You," he sounds like he's ad-libbing. It's his unpretentious charm and his iconic voice that sells Love, Charlie. The songs themselves are unmemorable, with "My Love Is All I Have" and "Say" among the highlights, but Charlie sounds great no matter what the record is.
