Colbie Caillat’s Holiday Faves
by Justin Farrar | December 3, 2014
In addition to guitars and surfboards, the talented and always lovely Colbie Caillat knows a thing or two about fantastic holiday music. After all, the bubbly singer-songwriter's 2012 album Christmas in the Sand has quickly turned into a modern yuletide standard. With its embrace of the California lifestyle (swimsuit, sun and fun, lazy picnics on the beach), the record is the perfect tonic for those of us who suffer profound "allergic reactions" to snow, freezing temperatures and the gratuitous application of rock salt.
As her holiday faves playlist clearly demonstrates, Caillat the fan possesses impeccable taste. To begin with, there's definitely a rock 'n' roller lurking inside her. Both Chuck Berry's "Run Rudolph Run" and The Boss' "Merry Christmas Baby" are joyful -- and raucous. And how about Weezer's riff-a-rific, alterna-version of "The First Noel"? Totally fun and cheeky. But you also need to look out for Caillat's temptress side. It shines through thanks to Eartha Kitt's "Santa Baby," which just might be the sultriest Christmas song ever recorded. Season's greetings from Ms. Caillat and Rhapsody!
