Country Music for Insomniacs
by Nick Murray | January 20, 2014
There are country songs that sound best coming out of a car stereo on a summer day, and others that are best heard on a quiet Sunday morning. This playlist, meanwhile, consists of songs that hit you hardest when -- to paraphrase a Faron Young track that made for an obvious inclusion -- it's four in the morning and once more the dawning brings out the wanting in you. In other words, these are songs that are meant to help you fall asleep but end keeping you wide awake. Keith Urban is up at the same hour as Faron, hoping his partner will take his cat and leave his sweater; Willie Nelson confides in the four walls that surround his bed; Little Big Town sing of the gap that separates two halves of a bed; and George Jones does, well, what George Jones does best.
