Detroit Rap 2013

by Mosi Reeves  |  October 20, 2013

Detroit rap is in the spotlight again. Some of the city's most bankable stars have new albums out this fall, from rap A-listers Eminem and Big Sean to indie heroes Danny Brown, Slum Village and Black Milk. This short playlist drills a little deeper to find relatively unknown artists that dropped records in 2013, like Boldy James, Clear Soul Forces, Quelle Chris and Jon Connor (who just signed a deal with Dr. Dre's Aftermath imprint). It may not be an aesthetic movement on par with the post-Dilla scene from 2007. But judging from its current crop, Motor City's rap community is alive and well.
