Dr. Luke's Pop Perfection
by Rachel Devitt | May 7, 2013
Think of a ubiquitous pop hit you've been unable to avoid in the last five years or so. Chances are, it was produced, written, remixed and/or otherwise monkeyed with by Dr. Luke. Rihanna's "Where Have You Been"? Yup. Jessie J's "Domino"? Indeed. Nicki Minaj's "Va Va Voom," Pink's "U + Ur Hand," Flo Rida's "Right Round," B.o.B.'s "Strange Clouds," even Daughtry's "Feels Like Tonight"? Yes, yes, hell yes, somewhat surprisingly yes and not-so-surprising-after-all yes. Just about anything by Katy Perry, Ke$ha or rehabbed Britney Spears? Absolutely.
He got his start as a lead guitarist for the Saturday Night Live house band who occasionally moonlighted as a hip-hop beatmaker. But since the ascent of Kelly Clarkson's "Since U Been Gone," the man born Lukasz Gottwald has been the architect of most of your pop fantasies and dancefloor daydreams, friends. If you're anything like us, this playlist of his many high points will bring back some pretty freaking awesome (if possibly hazy) memories. The good doctor's advice? Take two hits and call him in the morning. (Sorry.)
