Electronic Editor's Picks, August 2014
by Philip Sherburne | August 13, 2014
It's August. It's hot out. We could all use a little lemonade, don't you think? Fortunately, right on schedule, here's everyone's favorite U.K. club-music miscreant, SOPHIE, with "Lemonade," the most fizzily deranged take on a summer anthem since, well, ever, maybe. "Lemonade, luh-luh-lemonade!" Hear it once and you'll likely find it lodged in your head from now 'til Thanksgiving -- not bad for a two-minute song made out of nothing more substantial than a whistling teakettle and jump-rope rhymes. Honestly, we were tempted to play it 45 times in a row and call it a day, but in the interest of diversity, we've stuffed our 90-minute playlist with a whole host of pleasures from across the electronic spectrum, from FKA twigs' delirious neo-neo-soul to John Talabot's top-notch new remix of his countryman and label-mate Pional. Rolling through new tunes from Jim-E Stack, Roman Flügel, Axel Boman, Prins Thomas and FaltyDL, our playlist wraps up with SOPHIE's "Hard" -- the spike in the punch, as it were. Drink up!
