Free Speech Playlist

The residents of the good ol' U.S. of A. are nothing if not patriotic, aren't we? Well, we've got a lot to be proud of, from apple pie to county fairs, hot dogs to hot rods, a beautifully diverse nation to a (more or less) stable government. And, oh yeah, our fave: freedom, specifically freedom of speech. One of the best things about being American is that it is your right (maybe even your duty) to question and criticize every aspect of Americanness, from our president to our own patriotism. Few Americans believe in that right more strongly than musicians, who regularly take to the mic to air our grievances, critique our government and generally create a space for all of us to think and talk about how we can keep working to make this country of ours even greater. And wow, does all that free speechifying result in some mom's-apple-pie-good music. Revel in your right to raise your voice to the tune of Public Enemy, P!nk, Woody Guthrie and more with our Free Speech Playlist of American songs that question just what it means to be an American.
