Guardians of the Galaxy's 'Awesome Mix Vol. 1'
by Rhapsody | August 15, 2014
There are lots of great movies, sure, but great movie soundtracks are few and far between. American Graffiti, The Bill Chill, and Saturday Night Fever are just a few that come to mind. Now we can add Guardians of the Galaxy to this exclusive club.
What makes this soundtrack so special is not just its nostalgic trip through the '70s -- although listening to Redbone's "Come and Get Your Love" and The Five Stairsteps' "Ooh Child" is pretty sweet -- but that the soundtrack is, essentially, a co-star of the movie. For those who have yet to see Guardians of the Galaxy, the soundtrack in question is a mixtape (on an actual cassette) that the Star-Lord's deceased mother left him. As director James Gunn has explained, "It was of songs that she loved, all songs from the 1970s, and that's the only thing he has left of his mother and that's the only thing he has left of his home on Earth."
We know from our own experience how irresistible the nostalgic tug is when we listen to songs from our own childhood. So to honor the movie's unique use of music, we've pieced together the oh-so-groovy Awesome Mix Vol. 1 for you to enjoy. Hit play and prepare to be taken back to the '70s … and to the stars!
