Hip-Hop Editor's Picks, Fall 2013
by Mosi Reeves | November 26, 2013
Herein lies a collection of songs that caught my ear this fall. Most of them are deep album cuts. You've undoubtedly heard Drake and Jay-Z's "Pound Cake," which generated a torrent of freestyles upon its release, as well as Pusha T and Future's "Pain," a standout from the former's My Name Is My Name. It's a bit of a stretch to include Sons of the Morning, the one-off electronic project between Teebs and Prefuse 73, as well as newly minted beats/bass star Ryan Hemsworth. Others, like indie rap vets Tanya Morgan and Homeboy Sandman, may be new names to some of you. Nevertheless, this is current rap music as I've heard it -- or rather, as I've enjoyed it.
