Part of what makes dance music so exciting right now is the speed with which sounds morph and new icons emerge. Just consider Disclosure, a pair of college-aged British brothers who arrived last year with a fresh take on vintage U.K. garage. Their remix of Jessie Ware's "Running" and an EP for Greco-Roman, The Face, captivated ear-to-the-ground clubbers; then their bubbly single "Latch," featuring Sam Smith, suggested a whole new world of pop potential.
Well, they've made good on that: "White Noise," a new single featuring AlunaGeorge, is a summer radio jam par excellence, with hooks that soar for days and roots sunk deep in the dancefloor. It's the rare song that manages to roll up '80s, '90s, '00s and the current moment into one all-encompassing package. No wonder it logged over 700,000 listens in its first two and a half weeks on SoundCloud.
Expect to be hearing a lot of "White Noise" in the coming months, and the same goes for the rest of the songs on our roundup of February's biggest dance tracks. Avicii, Fedde Le Grand, Flux Pavilion, Datsik and Zeds Dead are among the producers who dropped serious heat this month; trap upstart UZ does nasty things to the Skrillex-signed Birdy Nam Nam; Serge Santiago takes Azari & III into deep-house bliss; and Matthew Dear trots out his Audion alias for a spellbinding remix of Depeche Mode's new single, "Heaven."
