Next week brings new albums from Janelle Monae and The Weeknd, so this roundup of R&B singles kicks off with "Dance Apocalyptic" from Monae's The Electric Lady, and "Belong to the World" and "Live For" from Kiss Land. With its Drake verse, "Live For" should quiet rumors that The Weeknd is at odds with his fellow Canadian star. Raheem DeVaughn's A Place Called Love Land dropped this week, but we've got a bonus song that didn't make the album: "Triggaman," a tribute to slain Florida teen Trayvon Martin. Musiq Soulchild and Syleena Johnson have completed an album of Jamaican-styled lovers' rock, 9ine, due September 24; the first single is "Feel the Fire." The second installment of Justin Timberlake's The 20/20 Experience is due September 30, so we have "Take Back the Night," a title that briefly caused controversy with anti-rape activists that have organized "Take Back the Night" rallies for decades. (Timberlake apologized for the inadvertent coincidence.)
In the TBD column, Chris Brown doesn't have a date for his X album, but he's supplying his fans with new material like "Love More." The next installment in Dawn Richard's sci-fi trilogy, Blackheart, is tentatively penciled in for October, and she has three new songs for it: "Judith," "Valkryie" and "Meteors." Toni Braxton and Babyface's collaboration is due in December, and the first single from it is "Hurt You." Plus, we've got fresh tracks from T-Pain ("Up Down [Do This All Day]"), R. Kelly ("My Story"), Omarion ("Know You Better"), Marsha Ambrosius ("Without You") and more.
