International Talk Like a Pirate Day
It's International Talk Like a Pirate Day! Who knew, right? But here it is again. And hey, what else is there to "celebrate" on September 19th? This irreverent holiday started back in 1996, but gained momentum in 2002 when humor columnist Dave Barry wrote a piece promoting the day. The "holiday" gained momentum in 2006 when its cofounder John Baur appeared on the television show Wife Swap. Two years later, he was a contestant on Jeopardy, where Alex Trebek introduced him as a "writer and pirate from Albany, Oregon." And then in 2008, Facebook came up with a "pirate" option for their language setting, which really made the day go viral. But all these pale in comparison to what's in store for 2013! This year, Krispy Kreme is getting into the act, giving a free glazed donut to anyone who orders talking like a pirate. Furthermore, if you come in dressed as a pirate, they will give you a dozen donuts!
So here, we've got some music to go with that donut: With songs about pirates, adventure, rum and sailing the seven seas, this playlist is pure escapism. Strap on your boots, bucko, and hit play … or we'll send you to Davy Jones' locker. Aaaargh!
