Killer '80s Country Cuts
As far as those who were around at the time -- both fans and artists -- are concerned, the '80s were pretty much the decade country would like to forget, when even the greatest artists made some of their worst albums. There's no denying that the era was a fallow patch in the fertile field of country music -- there are few genres left unscarred by '80s production techniques -- but that's no reason to consign the entire decade to the dumper. Once you get past all the overproduced, commercialized crap, there are plenty of killer country cuts from the '80s awaiting rediscovery. Not only were old dogs like Johnny, Willie and Waylon still turning out some quality tracks, there were also innovators like Lyle Lovett and Steve Earle who were just starting to get revved up. So let's dig through the dreck to drag up the gems from country's most maligned, misunderstood era.
