Label Spotlight: No Limit Records

by Nick Murray  |  June 13, 2013

No Limit Records was born in the San Francisco Bay Area, where label boss Percee "Master P" Miller had moved to attend college, but it will forever be associated with New Orleans, the home of both P and the majority of his future artists. Although regional and national stars like Silkk the Shocker, C-Murder (P's younger brothers, those two), Soulja Slim, Mia X, and for a time, Snoop Dogg and Mystikal all rapped for the label -- offering the sort of rough, street-ready lyrics rivaled only by crosstown competitors Cash Money Records -- local producers Beats by the Pound did much of the heavy lifting, creating a signature sound one horn blast and drum roll at a time. Here, we've selected two hours of the label's best, a playlist filled with more posse cuts than most artists have posse members.
