Leftfield Dance Picks, May 2013
by Philip Sherburne | May 25, 2013
We kick off this month's roundup of leftfield dance cuts with something of a fudge: Disclosure may have gotten their start in London's bass-music underground, but they're on track to be world-conquering pop stars in their own right. Their recent single "White Noise," featuring AlunaGeorge, went to No. 1 in the U.K. charts, and their forthcoming album Settle is tipped to be one of 2013's breakout successes. Nevertheless, they're definitely not making standard-issue main-stage EDM, especially when you factor in recent remixes from Hot Chip's Joe Goddard and Dixon, which bookend our selection here. The rest of our picks survey dance music's varied and ever-shifting landscape: techno (Mathew Jonson, Kangding Ray, Diamond Version), house (Legowelt, Nathan Fake's Ex-Pylon project, Hercules and Love Affair, The Chemical Brothers' Tom Rowlands), footwork (Chicago's mind-bending RP Boo) and more. Check it all out right here.
