Lil Jon's Electronic Crunk

by Mosi Reeves  |  April 26, 2014

Lil Jon's Top 10 hit with DJ Snake, "Turn Down for What," culminates a phenomenon that has developed ever since he and Pitbull teamed up for "The Anthem": The king of crunk has turned into a full-fledged EDM star. He's a resident DJ somewhere in Las Vegas, making bangers with buddies like Diplo and Steve Aoki. His barking, growling, let's-get-f*cked-up exhortations have found a home in the one-drop, dubstep-wobble, flashing lights exhibitionism of Electric Daisy Carnival-style dance music. He may have not had a genuine rap hit since 2006's chart-topping "Snap Yo Fingers," but that doesn't really matter when velvet rope-striated nightclubs around the world rage anytime the DJ cues up his "Shots."
