Love Is a Drug

by Rachel Devitt  |  April 10, 2014

That feeling of falling in love -- or lust -- is so elating, so all-consuming, so indescribable, isn't it? There's nothing quite like it. Well, almost. It seems the only thing that comes close is the elating, all-consuming, indescribable feeling of being drunk or high -- or at least, that's the go-to metaphor for many musicians. Beyoncé's current smash, "Drunk in Love," is only the latest to compare that delirious, heart-pounding, butterflies-in-your-stomach, walking-on-air feeling to the experience of losing yourself to drinking. Justin Timberlake's "Pusher Love Girl," Luke Bryan's "Drunk on You," Toni Braxton's "You're Makin' Me High" -- the list goes on. But of course, like getting wasted, falling hard for someone can also make you feel like your life is spinning out of control, driven only by your need for that substance or person. So we also included tunes that speak to the more addictive qualities of romance, like Kesha's "Your Love Is My Drug," Rihanna's "We Found Love" (those yellow diamonds come at a price) and New Politics' "Love Is a Drug."
