Judging from their discographies, at least four bands regularly classified as “metalcore” have become fixtures on alt and/or active and/or mainstream rock radio in the U.S. over the past seven years or so: Bullet for My Valentine from Wales; Killswitch Engage and All That Remains from Massachusetts; and Atreyu from California. Nevada’s Escape the Fate are catching up, and England’s Bring Me the Horizon deserve some kind of honorable mention for having had three Top 5 rock hits in their home country. Other metalcore groups who’ve placed albums in the U.S. Top 20 include Asking Alexandria, Attack Attack!, Chiodos, The Devil Wears Prada, Every Time I Die, Hatebreed and In This Moment; a couple more have come close.
They’re all on this playlist, with some of their best-known songs -- screamo to crabcore, post-grunge to punch-your-face. Possibly proving all metalcore doesn’t sound the same after all!
