My Top 100 of 2012
by Seth Colter Walls | December 28, 2012
Here is one more playlist for the holidays, just for insurance's sake. Let's say you're on a boring road trip or a plane or you're in argumentative battle with a relative who's saying "they don't make [insert genre] music like they used to anymore." In any or all of those cases, I present to you my favorite 100 tracks of the year, from all genres. It can help you pass the stray half hour (as with Esa-Pekka Salonen's killer new violin concerto), or confirm that R&B is still a place for innovation (see Miguel, Dawn Richard or Calvin Harris), or prove that the same person can enjoy country music, hip-hop and the latest jazz bangers all at once. Oh, you don't think jazz does bangers? Please go straight to Pete Rock's remix of a Robert Glasper track that features Yasiin Bey.
