New Release Sampler, 3/4/14
Hello, and welcome to another week of new releases! We have so many new albums for you to check out this week, it’s just crazy. In a good way. Pharrell Williams’ GIRL drops this week, and as you might expect, the album is chock-full-of falsetto-kissed, ‘70s inspired grooves not too far removed from “Blurred Lines.” This album is so easy to listen to! Smooth for sure. And for all the craziness about his hat, you will either be “Happy” (get it?) or a little disappointed that Pharrell appears hat-less on his album cover.
Lea Michele’s Louder also hits this week. Glee fans are going to love this EDM-dotted disc of high energy pop. Next up: Hello, Ashanti! It’s been a while. The singer’s fifth, and oft-delayed album, Braveheart, is an effervescent, beat-heavy foray into contemporary R&B. It’s good to have her back in our ears.
If you are looking for something grittier, definitely check out the Drive-By Truckers, whose rough-and-tumble brand of alt-country practically explodes on English Oceans. We love the Stones-y feel of “Til He’s Dead or Rises” and the jangle of “Primer Coat”—but you will find a favorite that’s all your own. Plus we have new singles from Janelle Monae (from the movie, Rio 2), country singer Craig Campbell, and an ethereal-sounding Porter Robinson. So hit play and dive into some of this week’s new releases.
