This week, you'll find new albums by icons like Cher, Elton John, Sting and country superstar Alan Jackson. How's that for a set of heavy-hitters? Cher's Closer to the Truth finds the diva firmly ensconced in the trendy dance pop sound, while Elton John eschews fancy production for a more stripped-down approach. Then there's Sting, whose The Last Ship is, well, sailing to Broadway. The album contains songs that are based on Sting's memories of growing up in a shipbuilding community in Northeast England -- which doesn't quite explain why he's singing in an Irish accent. Meanwhile, Alan Jackson's The Bluegrass Album is just as it sounds, and is utterly fabulous. And remember Mazzy Star? They're back with their first album in 17 (!) years. But if you're looking for new music from a slightly younger set, check out Drake's Nothing Was the Same, which continues to follow the rapper's path documenting the trappings of fame and the people/women he's forced to leave behind, and Kings of Leon's Mechanical Bull, loaded with big and bold rock anthems. It's all here -- now get listening!
