Occult Metal For Modern-Day Witches

Metal has obviously had a pagan side all the way back to Black Sabbath. But lately a bunch of artists have remembered pastorally psychedelic black masses and sacrificial rites that forgotten Wiccan rock cults like Black Widow and Coven conducted back in the scary early '70s, when the cover of Time was proclaiming “The Occult Revival: Satan Returns.” Even cooler: Five of this playlist’s eight bands have women singers who can sing, and a few have flutes. And Ghost B.C., from Sweden, look like the Pope of the underworld backed by a gaggle of monks. Hail the great god Pan!
